It's difficult trying to find a new way home when the old ways work so well. So it is with the partially disrobed or nude female form. The old ways work; why bother trying something a little different? And yet that is exactly what was accomplished with this exquisite portrait. Yes, she's female. Yes, she's all but nude. And, yes, she has gorgeous tits. What's not to like? But there's something different at work here, something more meaningful and evocative. That it is has to do with her pose — head bowed, a slight note of submission — and the stark contrast between her ivory flesh and the dark blouse is only part of the answer. Rather, what makes this image so beguiling is the choice — and we assume it was a choice, not an accident — by the artist to go with the soft, dreamy, diffused focus on the hands and head. Some might argue that having done so puts the focus squarely on the model's stunning breasts. However, this pair of eyes cannot move away from long, lingering looks at the hands and head. In lesser hands — no pun intended — this pose would never rise above softcore porn; whereas the artist here has created something extraordinarily telling about was it is to be a woman, to have one's femininity infused with eroticism.
